Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention

C.H.I.L.D Week

C.H.I.L.D. Week means Changing Hope Into a Lasting Difference. It is a week dedicated to educating the students of UIUC about the issue of child abuse. During this week, we hand out ribbons, candy, and juice boxes with facts regarding child abuse. We also host a speaker event, a fundraiser, and a day of service. All of the money collected goes to the previously selected organization. In the past, we have donated money to Cunningham Children's Home, CASA, and Prevent Child Abuse Illinois. Most recently, we donated money to Cunningham Children's Home, where we also volunteered for their famous "Festival of Quilts."

Asha for Education

Asha for Education is an organization that raises money for the education of underprivileged kids in India. We volunteer for many of their events, including Sambar: Indian Restaurant for a Cause and Asha's Holi. Sambar is a makeshift restaurant where we serve Indian food for cheap prices to raise money for the charity. Holi is an opportunity for UIUC students to immerse themselves in one of India's messiest holidays. All of the money raised goes towards the charity.

Real Life Childcare

This center is located in Champaign, Illinois. It is a daycare for teen moms. Unfortunately, teen moms are growing by the numbers and it is hard to support and raise a family at a young age. Real Life Childcare provides young moms with childcare for a short period of time, so that they do not have to worry about their wellbeing. DKD has been volunteering there for years by helping the workers and playing with the kids. Volunteering there helps us understand how innocent children are and the how prevalent of child abuse is.
