Service Focus: Children's Education

We believe if given the resources and tools, that education can empower and change lives. Although our service focus is on children's education, our service and volunteering is not limited to our service focus. We believe in helping our community and making a lasting difference through a helping hand. Through the past years, Delta Kappa Delta has completed over 100,000 hours of service. Through our passions for serving the community, we have made lasting memories and friendships.

H.O.P.E Week - Helping Others Pursue Education

Child week is a week in the fall that we host, dedicated to supporting children's education. During this week, we bring awareness and educate members in our community to gaps in literacy and access to resources. We hold evens such as school supplies drives to provide local children's homes with supplies. We also raise money towards local and national organizations committed to providing and improving the education of children. Additionally, we host a school wide service event to do with pushing forward children's education. In our most recent H.O.P.E week, we raised around $700 towards the cause and were able to deliver 200+ school supplies to the children at Cunningham's Children's Home.

Santa's Workshop

This is a campus wide service event we host near Christmas time. The purpose of Santa’s Workshop is to provide children in unstable family situations with the spirit of Christmas and some love during the holiday season. In the past we have created gift baskets, tie blankets, candy sleds, stockings, and more to donate to Crisis Nursery and Cunningham's Children's Home.

Sambar and Holi

Asha for Education is an organization that raises money for the education of underprivileged kids in India. We volunteer for many of their events, including Sambar: Indian Restaurant for a Cause and Asha's Holi. Sambar is a makeshift restaurant where we serve Indian food for cheap prices to raise money for the charity. Holi is an opportunity for UIUC students to immerse themselves in one of India's holidays. All of the money raised goes towards the Asha for Education fund.

Be the Change

Be The Change: Gandhi Day of Service is a national wide event held on campuses and cities. We host this event in collaboration other south asian interest greek organizations in October. This national day of service event is to extend our gratitude to Gandhi’s leadership and inspirational impact throughout his life. With SAALT (South Asian Americans Leading Together), we are able to ask others to extend aid to those in need and gather volunteers for local community service that will positively influence their communities.
